About Us

My name is Kevin Focht and I am the owner and photographer of Left Turn Studio.

I started Left Turn Studio as an offshoot of my commercial and fashion work. Left Turn Studio specializes in weddings, family portraits, and high school seniors.

After shooting fashion and beauty for over 20 years, and living in some of the most interesting cities in the world (New York, Miami, Milan, Athens Greece, London) I decided to move back to my hometown of Portland. I grew up here and started my career in the northwest, many years ago. Once my two children were born, I decided to move back to be close to family and friends.

There have been three things that have changed me and my life. The first and the second are the births of my two children (Aiden 9 and Addison 6), and the day of Sept. 11, 2001. Without going into too much detail, we lived two blocks from the World Trade Center on that day. Once you live through and experience something like that, it gives life a new perspective. You take stock of your life and what is really important to you. I decided a complete lifestyle change and new location was in order. That’s why we are back in the wonderful northwest!

I’ve always loved photographing people. When I was younger, fashion photography just fit. How can a guy in his twenties go wrong photographing beautiful models. Now that I am older, I have learned that beauty comes from the inside. There is a huge difference between shooting someone who wants to be there, rather than someone who is getting paid to be there. Fashion can be so transient in it’s lifestyle, and now that I have a family I like to be home at night. I have spent over 5 years preparing and researching the best labs and products for Left Turn Studio, and feel that I bring unparalleled experience as well as artistic vision to your wedding imagery.

The other person who works at the studio is Essie Nagler. I say works at the studio, but in reality she runs the place! If you need something done, email or call Essie. She gets everything done! Essie started out as an intern and within 6 months she was telling me what to do. That’s why she is there, to keep me on point! I do tend to wander from time to time when I see shiny objects and need to be brought back to the real world.
